Johannes Lörstad
Principal and member of the orchestra since 2005.
Johannes Lörstad studied under Endre Wolf and Alexander Fischer at the Malmö Academy of Music, and later under Philippe Hirshhorn and Wiktor Liberman at the Utrecht Conservatorium in the Netherlands. He obtained a soloist diploma from both institutions.
In 1998, Johannes Lörstad was hired as principal concertmaster with the Malmö Opera Orchestra, where he stayed until 2005, when he was appointed section leader of the second violin section with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra. Since 1997, he has also been section leader of the second violins in the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and since 2003, he has been a member of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra. He has served as guest concertmaster and section leader in several orchestras, including the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the Bavarian State Orchestra.
Johannes Lörstad is also active as a chamber musician and has performed in different chamber music subscriptions in Europe with members of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra as well as in Konserthuset’s various chamber music subscriptions. He regularly instructs music students at the Royal College of Music and students at Britten Pears Orchestra, Orchesterzentrum Dortmund and the Girolamo Frescobaldi Conservatory in Ferrara.
