Vicki Powell
Principal viola and member of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra since 2018.
Vicki Powell, born in America, is the Principal Viola of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic since 2018. She is a graduate of the Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler”, the Juilliard School of Music and the Curtis Institute of Music. She studied with Máté Szücs, Misha Amory and Roberto Diaz.
She has appeared to great critical acclaim as soloist with for instance the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Milwaukee Symphony and the Aspen Festival Orchestra, and she is the recipient of numerous awards. She has been invited to perform as Guest Principal Viola with orchestras around the world including the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig and Camerata Bern.
Powell has performed at many of the prestigious festivals, such as the Verbier, Ravinia and Marlboro Music Festivals. An avid chamber musician, she performs throughout Europe with the Boccherini Trio, and has previously collaborated with such reknowned artists as Mitsuko Uchida, Christian Tetzlaff, Steven Isserlis and Nobuko Imai.
Powell is passionate about using music to engage communities from diverse backgrounds. As Director of the Verbier Festival Academy’s “Reaching Out” program, she helped enable musicians to broaden their business and networking skills. She has also collaborated with the Medair organization, which through education and other means helps people who are suffering around the world.
