Martin Schöpfer
Principal and member of the orchestra since 2011.
Austrian Martin Schöpfer has been alternate section leader of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra’s horn section since 2011. Prior to that, he worked in the opera orchestra in Graz for 12 years. He studied in Innsbruck and then at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna.
In addition to his period with the orchestra in Graz, Martin Schöpfer has been engaged as a solo horn player with orchestras such as the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Bamberg Symphony, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, Munich Chamber Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and the Oslo Philharmonic. He has also appeared with numerous Vienna-based orchestras, such as the Wiener Symphoniker, Vienna Chamber Orchestra and a longer period with the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra.
His engagements with special-focus ensembles include the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra and Orchester Wiener Akademie, as well as Ensemble XX Jahrhundert and the Tiroler Ensemble für Neue Musik, which focus on contemporary music. In chamber music contexts, Martin Schöpfer has worked with ensembles including Styrian Brass, Austrian Horns and Mahler Chamber Soloists.
