He already felt during its composition that he was creating something great. ”Have received a wonderful theme”, he noted in a diary entry. He had seen sixteen swans, which gave him the idea for the magnificent theme in the final movement. ”One of the great experiences of my life! My God, what beauty.”
The orchestra is led by the Latvian conductor Aivis Greters, who has conducted the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra a couple of times in recent years. As a prelude to Sibelius after the interval, we hear the latest orchestral work by the Swedish composer Jacob Mühlrad. The world premiere of Resil was recently performed by the Swedish Chamber Orchestra, and here the work is presented for the first time in a version for a large symphony orchestra. Read more about Resil (opens in a new window)
The composer, pianist, and conductor Adolf Wiklund's two piano concertos are among the best Swedish works in their genre. The first concerto from 1906 is grandly romantic in the footsteps of Rachmaninov, spiced with a touch of Grieg and a pinch of his friend Stenhammar. Wiklund was also the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra's second conductor, from 1925 to 1938.
As the soloist in Wiklund's first piano concerto, we have the versatile pianist Magnus Svensson. He performs concerts both in Sweden and internationally. He has particularly immersed himself in the art lieder and is the artistic director for Konserthuset’s series of lied concerts. Since 2012, he has also been working at the Royal Swedish Academy of Music with re-publishing older Swedish music.

It is one of his most beloved major chamber music works, and the French Academy of Fine Arts also awarded the quartet with its prestigious Prix Chartier.
Fauré's music ranges from light salon music to musical romanticism on the brink of modernism. Fauré made a significant impact on the French music scene, serving as an organist at the Saint-Sulpice Church in Paris, conductor at the Madeleine Church, and for many years as a professor at the Paris Conservatoire. Among his students were Maurice Ravel and Nadia Boulanger.
Claudia Bonfiglioli is the section leader in the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra's second violin section, violist Catarina Skoog Aquilonius celebrates her 20th anniversary with the orchestra this year, and Marie Macleod is the principal cellist. Terés Löf is one of the country's most accomplished pianists . She has guested Konserthuset on several occasions and in 2016 performed the Swedish premiere of Amy Beach's Piano Concerto with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra.

Don’t miss this tribute to Svenne Hedlund, whose passing in December 2022 left behind a huge empty space. The songs we have chosen from his and Hep Stars’ musical trove are performed by Peter Jezewski, Dan Hylander, Py Bäckman and Tone Norum. Selections for the evening include Sunny Girl, Wedding, Lilla Sofie and Cadillac.
Svenne Hedlund was a huge idol. His breakthrough in the 1960s was in Hep Stars, which included member Benny Andersson, who composed many of the band’s hits. Later, the duo Svenne & Lotta became huge and toured Sweden’s outdoor venues. Now we celebrate and remember Svenne Hedlund. Join us for this nostalgic evening, as we fondly remember the past and celebrate this great idol.”

This massive ensemble is led by Cedwin Sandanam, the choir director behind Tensta Gospel Choir. Experience the magnificent sensation of so many voices performing swinging gospel songs, both traditional and modern.
Also behind Sthlm Mass Choir is Sabina Valois, producer and assistant choir director; Sara Brannäs, assistant choir director; and Jonathan Waldenfrid, conductor. All three have leadership roles with Tensta Gospel Choir. The concept behind this choir was to create a space for beginners and experienced singers alike to participate in the feel, rhythm and swing that made Tensta Gospel Choir the most popular gospel choir in Sweden.
Founded in January 2023, Sthlm Mass Choir has already given acclaimed concerts at Berwaldhallen and Filadelfia Convention Center. The choir now comes to Konserthuset Stockholm to perform two concerts filled with swing, rhythm and emotion.
