Kurdish soprano Pervin Chakar has received acclaim for roles performed on the world’s major opera stages. She is also a dedicated interpreter of her home region’s vast trove of musical gems. Without ever misrepresenting the originals, she performs hymns and songs, accompanied by western and eastern instruments, making the works accessible to people all over the world. In addition to traditional Kurdish songs, at this concert we also hear arias from operas by Gounod, Mozart, Bellini, Verdi and Puccini.
Pervin Chakar studied at the conservatory in Perugia, Italy, and has won numerous prestigious awards, including the Maria Caniglia Competition in Sulmona and the Magda Olivero Award in Milan. She has also performed at venues such as Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Theatre an der Wien, Teatro La Fenice in Venice, and many more.
