Cantemus and Peter Johansson sings Elton John

External organiser: Cantemus Produktion AB

Together with Peter Johansson, 300 singers in the choir Cantemus make magic with Elton John’s incredible trove of songs, spanning more than 50 years! Five composers have written brand new arrangements – just for Cantemus and Peter Johansson – of a handful of Elton John’s most popular songs, from Your Song, Candle in the Wind, and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, to Sacrifice and much more. Peter also sings additional songs solo.

Conductor Carl Flemsten and the band carry the choir and soloist to new heights.

Cantemus is a choir that has had thousands of singers since its inception in 1999. The ensemble alternates classical choral gems, such as Messiah, Mozart’s Requiem and Carmina Burana with concerts featuring popular icons like ABBA, The Beatles, Elvis, Sinatra, Simon & Garfunkel and many more. Cantemus has worked with some of Sweden’s foremost composers, who have written pieces especially for the choir in arrangements that allow all of the sections to take turns carrying the melody. Just weeks before the pandemic broke out in 2020, Cantemus sang a Queen programme, “Queen Goes Opera”, with Peter Johansson and the opera duo Divine Opera. Two sold-out Konserthuset audiences cheered!

Elton John is among the most beloved musicians and songwriters of our time. After a career spanning more than 50 years, he went on a farewell tour of 330 concerts in Europe and the US. The tour began in 2018 and ended with two concerts at the Tele2 Arena in Stockholm on 7 and 8 July 2023.

Peter Johansson’s professional debut was in 2001 in Germany. In 2003-2007, he sang in a London staging of We Will Rock You, singing the lead role of Galileo about 850 times in the final two years. Peter Johansson has now been filling arenas and concert halls all over Sweden for nearly sixteen years, including with “Champions of Rock”, a tribute to Queen. “Champions of Rock” has been performed for over 150,000 people in Sweden.

“It is magnificent and beautiful and dynamic from the very first moment,” wrote Swedish newspaper NT’s reviewer of Peter Johansson’s Elton John programme, with the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra in De Geerhallen in Norrköping, which filled up twice on a Saturday in September 2023!

Pianist Carl Flemsten has performed over the years with artists such as Tommy Körberg, Carola, Sanna Nielsen, Magnus Uggla and, not least, Peter Johansson.
