Acclaimed global artist in a long-awaited visit

BUIKA has conquered the world with her blend of flamenco, jazz, soul, blues and pop. This Grammy-winning musician has been described as one of the 50 best voices of all time: “A Voice of Freedom”. She has been compared to the likes of Nina Simone, Chavela Vargas, Cesaria Evora, Billie Holiday, Edith Piaf and Amy Winehouse. In a review of one concert, the New York Times wrote: “Her music is the rare fusion that honours all its sources”.

Concha Buika is the daughter of political refugees from Equatorial Guinea, one of the smallest countries in Africa. She grew up in Palma de Mallorca among Spanish Roma, which exposed her to the traditional flamenco tradition. Her background from Palma and the African continent have made an imprint on her music, in which she combines elements of flamenco, soul, folk, jazz, and Spanish copla – a traditional Spanish folk genre.

BUIKA has new music out after a long list of critically acclaimed albums and collaborations with international artists including Carlos Santana, Javier Limon, Seal, Nelly Furtado, Anoushka Shankar, Chick Corea, Pat Metheny, Jason Mraz, Mariza and Chucho Valdes. She has also collaborated with filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar and participated in his movie, La piel que habito.

“BUIKA is a queen and with her voice she can do anything, and everything”. (Carlos Santana)

“Her voice has an unusual colour and a very wide vocal pitch, gifted for the most intimate caress and for the deafening screech. Buika knows how to sing ‘with a broken heart’. It makes me tremble”. (Pedro Almodovar)

“I love BUIKA… She is pure passion, she has a beautiful texture in her voice”. (Alicia Keys)
