Singer Rickard Söderberg and pianist Johan Reis have performed over 400 concerts together and established a unique, intuitive collaborative musical style. At this concert, they will perform music from their first album together: Vier Letzte Lieder.

Richard Strauss was active in the first half of the twentieth century and it is no exaggeration to say that he was one of the most important opera composers of music history. His music manages to link different musical eras together. In his final year of life, he summarises everything in his Vier Letzte Lieder, the Four Last Songs. These were Strauss’ final completed works.

Filled with light sadness and conviction that his death was imminent, in these songs he created a tonal world that has enchanted people ever since the world premiere by Kirsten Flagstad in 1950. The lyrics were written by Herman Hesse and Joseph von Eichendorff.

The album also includes Franz Liszt’s three magnificent compositions based on poems by Renaissance poet Francesco Petrarca. They most closely resemble mini operas with recitatives, arias and cabalettas, in which the entire vocal register is presented in sweet melodies and dramatic eruptions.

The album Vier Letzte Lieder by Rickard Söderberg and Johan Reis will be released on 8 May.
