Curious Classics – Sada Trio
Classical Eastern chamber music and modern compositions.
Meet the Sada Trio, a unique ensemble of three virtuosos, all based in Sweden, who breathe life into Eastern music traditions with authentic instruments.
Ahmad’s first solo record, entitled Sada (Arabic for voice), was released 15 years ago. Sada thus became the name of the newly formed trio, which also includes multi-instrumentalist, composer and musical storyteller Pedram Shahlai, who began his musical career in Saqez, in the Kurdish region of Iran. He discovered music at a young age and since childhood, he has wanted to cross borders between musical traditions. Pedram’s musical voice is transnational to say the least, with influences from classical, jazz, tango and Romany music, but its heart is in Kurdish musical tradition.
The third member of the trio is Feras Sharestan from Syria, who already began appearing with major international musicians while studying music in Damascus. He is specialized in the Eastern zither called the qanun, which has around seventy strings.
Ahmad Al Khatib will also be participating in the festival with the world premiere of his own piece, commissioned by Radio Sweden, in another constellation: Trio Sabil. Read more about the concert at Stallet on Thursday 20 February at 19.00
