Martin Fröst with friends

Welcome to an exciting concert with Martin Fröst, presenting selected favourites from the pioneering and widely celebrated shows Genesis and Retrotopia – both world premiered at Konserthuset Stockholm and since then successfully brought to international audiences.

The programme is a musical journey through time and space, from antiquity through the Middle Ages and Hildegard von Bingen, to music from our era. Furthermore, we will experience some fabulously dancing klezmer music, as well as music by Mozart, Beethoven and more. Also participating are clarinetists Magnus Holmander and Sandra Ibarreche – both took part in the show Genesis with Fröst and the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra in 2015 – together with a girls choir of Adolf Fredrik’s Music Scool, students of the Royal College of Music in Stockholm and the Swedish Chamber Orchestra. As of autumn 2019, Fröst is also chief conductor of the Swedish Chamber Orchestra.

All revenue from this evening’s concert will go to Martin Fröst’s new foundation. Acclaimed clarinettist Martin Fröst is starting a foundation in support of young musicians – the Martin Fröst Foundation. The objective of the foundation is for more children and young people all over the world to have the opportunity to study music and have access to instruments. Martin Fröst states: “Recently, events in my life have led to a number of crucial private and artistic decisions. One of the most important has been starting the Martin Fröst Foundation. I am thrilled that with this concert – together with Konserthuset Stockholm and generous support from clarinet manufacturer Buffet Crampon – we can begin our work!”

The foundation will focus its work in particular on regions that have cultural resources but lack financial opportunities. The foundation will also work to support the development of the classical concert form – something which Martin Fröst works with constantly in his activities as an artist.

Martin Fröst is one of the world’s foremost musicians. Among other prizes, he has received one of the world’s most prestigious music awards: the Léonie Sonning Music Prize.
