Piano Solo – Pierre-Laurent Aimard
An afternoon with the unparalleled music of Johann Sebastian Bach.
French pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard moves effortlessly between the giants of the Baroque and the music of our own time. He has received international acclaim and numerous awards for his recordings of Debussy and Franz Liszt, and has astonished both critics and audiences with his fresh, thought-provoking interpretations of Beethoven’s five piano concertos.
Aimard collaborates regularly with the world’s leading orchestras and conductors, and gives recitals at prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York and the Konzerthaus in Vienna. Among his many achievements, he also served for several years as artistic director of the Aldeburgh Festival in England.
When he last visited Konserthuset Stockholm in 2017, his programme featured music by Beethoven and Debussy. Now, as we welcome him back, he performs the second volume of Johann Sebastian Bach’s famous Das wohltemperierte Klavier – The Well-Tempered Clavier. This music ranges from flowing, lyrical preludes to astonishingly intricate fugues. It is also music that inspired both Chopin and Rachmaninoff to compose their own groundbreaking sets of preludes.
