Lied Concert with Sporsén and Risberg
Rarely heard British, American and Scandinavian music with Julia Sporsén and David Risberg.
Julia Sporsén is one of Sweden’s most acclaimed sopranos today. She was awarded the Svenska Dagbladet Opera Prize in 2023 for her portrayal of the title role in Bellini’s Norma at Folkoperan, with the jury stating: “In the service of artistic expression, she tests all boundaries with beautiful sensitivity and complete vocal mastery.” Equally praised was her performance as Desdemona in Verdi’s Otello at the Gothenburg Opera last season.
She appears here alongside rising baritone David Risberg, who made his debut at the Royal Swedish Opera in 2021 and has since performed several acclaimed roles – including appearances at Malmö Opera and the Vadstena Academy, where he took part in the world premiere of Andefabriken (The Spirit Factory) by Daniel Nelson.
Together, Julia Sporsén and David Risberg perform songs by Rachmaninov, Debussy, Gerald Finzi, Frank Bridge, William Bolcom, Carl Nielsen and Emil Sjögren. They are joined by the versatile pianist Magnus Svensson, artistic director of the song recital series for several seasons. In addition to concert appearances across the Nordic region and Europe, he has also performed in Russia and the USA. Since 2012, he has also worked at the Royal Swedish Academy of Music, focusing on the re-publication of older Swedish music.
