Blue House Jazz – The Golden Age of Hollywood
Off to the dream factory with Bohuslän Big Band and Isabella Lundgren.
Bohuslän Big Band and acclaimed jazz vocalist Isabella Lundgren take us on a musical journey through the golden age of Hollywood – a time when the silver screen sparkled with stars like Judy Garland, Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire, and film scores were penned by legendary composers such as Cole Porter and George Gershwin. This is music full of beauty, magic and joie de vivre.
But beyond the spotlight, another reality existed: an America marked by political and social tension, racism and economic injustice. New stars rose on the silver screen, but happy endings were far from guaranteed in real life. This concert is a tribute to the power of music, told through timeless melodies.
With a stunning voice and a rare emotional intensity, Isabella Lundgren has the ability to mesmerise her audience. She has released a series of critically acclaimed albums and has performed at Konserthuset on numerous occasions – including Over the Rainbow – Judy Garland at 100, with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, available to stream on Konserthuset Play. This time, beloved songs from classic films such as The Wizard of Oz and The Sound of Music are reimagined – all under the direction of the versatile Calle Rasmusson.
Bohuslän Big Band is a world-class big band that has performed with top international artists such as Vince Mendoza, Danilo Pérez, Maria Schneider and Nils Landgren, as well as beloved Swedish performers like Sarah Dawn Finer, Björn Skifs and Tommy Körberg. Since 2004, the ensemble has been part of Vara Concert Hall and carries an artistic commission from the Västra Götaland Region.
