New Friday with Amazone Quartet
The original Danish quartet performs arrangements and specially composed music.
The members of the Amazone Quartet met before a concert of Ravel’s Chansons Madécasses — Madagascar Songs, for the unusual combination of mezzo soprano, flute, cello and piano. They subsequently decided to arrange and compose music for this combination, and commissioned brand new music.
The Danish-Iranian writer Shadi Angelina Bazeghi's poem Flowmatic Nights was taken as the starting point for this program. The text was translated into the mother tongue of the selected composers, and with their own musical vocabulary, the composers made their interpretations of the text and the language sounds. The same poem was thus taken to four different worlds.
Finnish Minna Leinonen’ works are inspired by everyday phenomena such as Finnish environment, nature and folklore or daily objects and sounds. Her opera Alma! was nominated for the Nordic Council's Music Prize 2022. She is currently working on her doctorate at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki.
English-Lebanese Bushra El-Turk has written music for a variety of contexts, in addition to pure concert music also music for film and television. She likes to mix inspiration from different cultures, where, among other things, her Lebanese roots can come to the fore.
Iranian-born Farzia Fallah is active in Germany, where she also studied. In her music, she is open to combining Western music expressions with Persian music and likes to work with electronics.
Danish Josefine Opsahl is a composer, cellist and artist in several different disciplines. She moves between tradition and renewal, between the composed and the improvised.
