Celebrating Allan Edwall 100 years
Helen Sjöholm, Lennart Jähkel and Bengan Janson pay tribute to a beloved multi-talented artist.
100 years after his birth, Allan Edwall’s music and lyrics are as relevant today as when he wrote them. Poetry, social criticism, humor, and seriousness permeate all his works. Helen Sjöholm, Bengan Janson, and Lennart Jähkel have explored Allan’s rich production and offer both music and lyrics in a unique performance! Script: Bengan Janson and Carsten Palmær.
Allan Edwall was a beloved actor, director, theater manager, author, and songwriter, among other things. Born into a working-class family in Jämtland, he went on to become one of Sweden’s most famous and appreciated actors in film and theatre. He made his recording debut in 1979 with Grovdoppa, which was followed by several albums featuring his texts and music. In the late 1980s, he founded Teater Brunnsgatan Fyra and began a successful collaboration with Kristina Lugn. Together with Bengan Janson, he also formed the group De tröstlösa.
Since her breakthrough in Kristina från Duvemåla, Helen Sjöholm has been a favorite with the public, constantly in the spotlight in various contexts. Nimble-fingered and quick-witted, Bengan Janson is regarded as one of our foremost musicians and has a direct connection to Allan Edwall, having collaborated with him for many years. Lennart Jähkel is one of the country’s most well-known actors, with a series of notable roles in theater, film, and television. Lars Ericsson is a long-time associate at Estrad Norr and has, over three decades, performed with Sweden’s leading musicians and artists.
