Vanguard Jazz Orchestra
The famous big band from New York celebrates their founder.
Vanguard Jazz Orchestra from New York is a big band originally founded and led by trumpet player, arranger and composer Thad Jones (1923–86) and drummer Mel Lewis (1929–90).
Vanguard Jazz Orchestra has had a Monday-night residency at one of New York’s best-known jazz clubs, Village Vanguard, for over half a century! This is believed to be the longest running residency in jazz history.
Now Vanguard Jazz Orchestra performs at Konserthuset Stockholm in a unique concert entitled Thad 100!, in celebration of what would have been Thad Jones’ 100th birthday in 2023. The performance includes many compositions that Thad Jones regularly played with the original members of the big band.
