Soup Concert with cello and guitar
Music by Boccherini, Lili Boulanger and de Falla.
Music with new voices. Philharmonic cellist Hanna Dahlkvist and guitarist Per Skareng perform works composed, in many cases, for other instruments. Only Common Time by Dutch Anette Kruisbrink (born 1958) is originally for cello and guitar.
Italian Luigi Boccherini became known as a cello virtuoso early on. He later moved to Spain, where he stayed for the rest of his life. The minuet from his string quintet Opus 11 is familiar to most, but he also composed numerous cello sonatas. This one in A-major is originally for cello and piano.
French Lili Boulanger’s exceptional talent is clear in her beautiful Nocturne, which was originally composed for violin and piano. Sadly, she died far too young at age 24 of Crohn’s disease.
The music of Spanish Manuel de Falla is infused with passion and the characteristic colours of Spain. Suite Populaire Espagnole is based on a collection of songs for voice and piano, inspired by different regions of Spain. The music has been arranged for different instruments, including cello. With guitar instead of piano, this music is also spiced with an extra hint of Spain.
