Lied Concert with Asplund and Mynenko

Music by Richard Strauss, Silvestrov and more.

For the first time ever, our popular Lied Evenings welcomes a countertenor: a male singer who uses falsetto to sing in the same vocal range as a female soprano, alto or mezzosoprano. One of the very best is Ukrainian Yuriy Mynenko, who regularly performs with the world’s top conductors and orchestras on stages such as the Cologne Opera, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, Opéra Royal in Versailles and Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.

We also hear Åland-born coloratura soprano Sofie Asplund, who was brilliant in the role of Zerbinetta in Richard Strauss’ Ariadne auf Naxos at both GöteborgsOperan and the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm. She has also performed the role of Anne Trulove in Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress at Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Philharmonie de Paris, and Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg.

Together with pianist Magnus Svensson, Asplund and Mynenko interpret music by Richard Strauss, Sibelius, late-Romantic Polish Mieczysław Karłowicz and Ukraine’s best-known contemporary composer, Valentin Silvestrov.

Pianist Magnus Svensson specialises in the art of lied, and he has served as artistic director of Lied Evenings for several seasons. In addition to concerts in the Nordic region and elsewhere in Europe, he has also performed in Russia and the US. Since 2012, he has also worked at the Royal Swedish Academy of Music with re-publishing older Swedish music.

Music by Richard Strauss, Silvestrov and more.
