Finale with the RSPO Orchestra Academy Finalkonsert
Closing concert with this season's academy musicians.
Since 2016, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra (RSPO) offers one year of training on site at Konserthuset Stockholm. The RSPO Orchestra Academy aims to give participating musicians heightened knowledge and understanding of the profession by giving them the possibility to work with – and alongside – one of Europe’s leading symphony orchestras.
The young musicians receive individual tuition on their instrument by tutors that are predominantly leaders and principals of the orchestra. In addition, extensive chamber music playing is a vital part of the course. In this case, it’s the final consert with the students of the season 2022/23.
Samuel Barber’s Summer Music is a wind quintet with some bluesy ingredients. This is followed by Tchaikovsky’s string sextet Souvenir de Florence. Its title, Memory from Florence, indicates where he began composing it. Finally wind players and strings are gathered together to perform Swedish composer Johannes Pollak’s Elegy, a piece premiered by the RSPO Orchestra Academy of 2020, now returning in a version adapted for this year’s academists.
