Soup Concert with cello and piano
Two great personalities of twentieth-century music.
Mikael Sjögren, cello, and Stefan Lindgren, piano, are well-known figures of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra. Here, they present radiant pieces by Nadia Boulanger and Dora Pejacevic, two powerful names of twentieth-century music.
With students such as Leonard Bernstein, Per Nørgård, Philip Glass, Aaron Copland, Quincy Jones (!) and many more, in addition to a composer and a conductor, Nadia Boulanger was one of the most important teachers of composition of the twentieth century. In the first of her Three Pieces for Cello and Piano, the cello sings expressively over the glittering piano, while the second piece is more introspective and contemplative. The energetic and rhythmically propulsive third and final movement provides a striking contrast.
Already as a teenager, Dora Pejacevic began composing music, and she toured early as a piano soloist with her own works. When World War I broke out, she withdrew from the world and focused solely on composition. We hear traces of Wagner, Brahms and Bruckner in her music, but it is also deeply personal, with richly colourful sounds and a profound sense of gravity, as heard in the sonata for cello and piano.
Menu: Carrot ginger soup with pickled carrot salad. The soup is served with sourdough bread, crispbread, whipped butter, and cheese as well as drinks and coffee/tea with a small biscuit. All the soups are lactose- and gluten-free. Please let us know any dietary requirements when booking.
