Peter Jablonski performs Bacewicz

Finnish conductor Jukka-Pekka Saraste’s exceptional versatility has led to major accomplishments on the international scene. He has also had a close relationship with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra for decades.

Here, he will conduct music by Ingvar Lidholm, one of Sweden’s foremost composers, who would have turned 100 years old this year. Greetings from an Old World was composed for the Clarion Music Society in New York in 1976 for the United States Bicentennial. A key ingredient of the piece is Heinrich Isaac’s song of wandering, Innsbruck, ich muss dich lassen. 

Swedish pianist Peter Jablonski conquered the world already as a teenager. He has performed with the foremost conductors and orchestras in the world, and with a career spanning three decades, he has a large repertoire. At this concert, we will hear him in the 1949 piano concerto by Polish Grazyna Bacewicz, a piece composed to commemorate the 100-year anniversary of the death of her fellow countryman, Chopin. This dynamic, masterful and powerful music occasionally finds inspiration in folk songs and dances.

From Lidholm’s old world to the new world – yet another greeting from Europe to the US: Dvorák’s Symphony No 9 “From the New World”, composed while he was a professor of composition in the US, has become one of the world’s most played and popular symphonic works. The piece is an exquisite fusion of Dvorák’s musical roots from the Czech Republic with sounds from America.
