Final concert with students of the RSPO Orchestra Academy
Chamber music by William Schuman, Antonín Dvorák, Joan Tower and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
Since 2016, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra (RSPO) offers one year of training on site at Konserthuset Stockholm. The RSPO Orchestra Academy aims to give participating students heightened knowledge and understanding of the profession by giving them the possibility to work with – and alongside – one of Europe’s leading symphony orchestras.
The students receive individual tuition on their instrument by tutors that are predominantly leaders and principals of the orchestra. In addition, extensive chamber music playing and public concerts, as this one, are vital parts of the course. Today’s programme includes for instance the Serenade in c minor by Mozart – which composed ca 1782 is music of a darker flavour to some extent, and the circumstances around the piece are largely unknown, and music by Joan Tower (born in 1938), a successful and Grammy Award winning American composer: Rising deals – as the title suggests – with ascending movements in the music.
