Pianist and composer Herbie Hancock is one of the greatest jazz musicians of our era. He is now coming to Konserthuset Stockholm for an exclusive, long-awaited concert.

Herbie Hancock has been one of the most important figures in jazz and popular music since the 1960s. His unique style infused the sound of the ground-breaking Miles Davis Quintet, of which he was a member for years. His playing evolved in work on his own projects, like the album Headhunters, whose innovative mix of electric jazz, funk and rock put songs at the top of the charts.     

On albums like Rockit and Future Shock, Hancock shifted to an electronic sound while continuing acoustic performances with the V.S.O.P. Quintet and bandmates from his period with Miles Davis: Wayne Shorter, Ron Carter and Tony Williams.

In 1986, Herbie Hancock won an Oscar for best original score for the movie Round Midnight. And he has won an impressive 17 Grammy Awards: multiple times for best improvised jazz solo, as well as best pop collaboration, best instrumental composition and album of the year for River: The Joni Letters. He won a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016.

Herbie Hancock is a uniquely gifted improviser and performs solo, with a band, and with symphony orchestras such as the Los Angeles Philharmonic. As a composer, he has written incredible classics like Canteloupe Island, Maiden Voyage, Watermelon Man and Chameleon.

Since 2018, he has run the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz, formerly known as the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz. He is also the Creative Chair for jazz with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association. In 2011, he was awarded the French distinction Commandeur des Arts et des Lettres and appointed a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador. In 2013, he received a Kennedy Center Honor and the following year, he was named the Charles Eliot Norton Professor of Poetry at Harvard University. He simultaneously published his memoir, Herbie Hancock: Possibilities. He has been a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences for years.

Herbie Hancock is currently at work on a new studio album.
