Orphei Drängar

We’re singing in spring with a men’s choir a cappella.

For many, the spring concert is synonymous with men’s choral music, and among men’s choirs in Sweden, Orphei Drängar is in a league of its own. With its blend of younger and older male voices, the choir has a unique sound that spans from bright and gentle to round and mature.

The ensemble has a long tradition to rest on, and since its inception in 1853 (!) it has toured regularly throughout Sweden and internationally. The repertoire is broad, ranging from classical, Romantic and folk to jazz and newly composed art music, and they gladly perform with guest soloists such as Peter Mattei, Anne Sofie von Otter and Martin Stenmarck.

Orphei Drängar represents a rich tradition and high quality, and the numerous conductors to have worked with the choir include Hugo Alfvén, Eric Ericson and Robert Sund. Since 2008, Orphei Drängar’s conductor has been Cecilia Rydinger Alin, vice-chancellor of the Royal College of Music in Stockholm and former conductor of Allmänna Sången in Uppsala and Wermland Opera.
