Eric Ericson 100 years
A tribute to the influential choral doyen.
Both the Eric Ericson Chamber Choir and the Swedish Radio Choir will participate in this concert in celebration of what would have been Ericson’s one-hundredth birthday. The concert takes place almost on the day of the anniversary: he was born 26 October 1918, and passed away 16 February 2013.
Already in 1945, shortly after finishing his studies, he founded the Chamber Choir that became the Eric Ericson Chamber Choir in 1988. Eric Ericson was also chief conductor of the Swedish Radio Choir for a long period, from 1951 to 1982, and through these choirs he came to develop and define the Swedish choral sound, which became world-famous and deeply admired.
The Eric Ericson Chamber Choir is now led by its current chief conductor Fredrik Malmberg, who succeeded Eric Ericson in the position in 2012, and the Swedish Radio Choir is led by Slovenian conductor Martina Batic, receiver of the Eric Ericson Award in 2006.
