Swedish jazz – not however the usual jazz standards that perhaps spring to mind, but more recent examples. Yes, we are talking about the ”future standards”, if it is at all possible to predict such a development. Peter Asplund explains:
”Often when playing the Swedish equivalents of American jazz standards, we turn to the music of an older generation, like Lars Gullin and so on. This time, Magnus Lindgren and I wanted to take on music written by the jazz musicians of our time. Hence, we play music by Håkan Broström, Lars Jansson, Esbjörn Svensson, Lina Nyberg, Monica Dominique, Rigmor Gustavsson, Lennart Åberg and others.”
The selected music is specially arranged for Blue House Jazz Orchestra, this time made up of ten musicians rather than the traditional big band setting of 16 musicians. Blue House Jazz Orchestra is Konserthuset Stockholm’s own big band, led by Peter Asplund and Magnus Lindgren.
