Exterior renovation 2025/26

With the 100th anniversary in 2026 approaching, a major renovation of the façade is underway to restore Konserthuset’s beautiful original colour.

Konserthuset will undergo an exterior renovation starting in spring 2025. The main part of the work involves repainting the façade. The project is expected to be completed by summer 2026. Throughout the renovation, the regular concert schedule will continue as usual.

The blue colour has contributed to making the neoclassical building an iconic Stockholm landmark – a “coelin blue” chosen in the 1920s by architect Ivar Tengbom and artist Isaac Grünewald. Their vision was a sky-blue building in honour of music, a colour that would make the house appear to float – both by blending into the sky and by standing out from the surrounding buildings, which at the time were painted in more muted tones.

“It will probably appear a bit lighter than before. The paint is the same shade as previously, but over time, dirt has darkened the original colour,” explains Jeanette Hultstrand, Head of Property Management.

The renovation will be carried out in overlapping phases, with scaffolding being erected and taken down in stages around the building. Throughout the entire period, all entrances will remain open as usual. The planned schedule is as follows:

  • Phase I, spring and summer 2025: the façade facing Hötorget
  • Phase II, late spring, summer and autumn 2025: the façade facing Kungsgatan
  • Phase III, winter and spring 2025/26: the façade facing Sveavägen
  • Phase IV, winter and spring 2025/26: the façade facing the Hötorget skyscrapers
