Genre: Chamber music

Rising Stars: Tamsin Waley-Cohen

This concert is part of Rising Stars, the international concert series in which we meet the stars of today and tomorrow. Rising Stars is an international collaboration of the leading European concert houses in the European Concert Hall Organisation (ECHO), including Stockholm Concert Hall. Every year, a handful of young musicians are named Rising Stars, which entails a unique opportunity for appearances at some of the music world’s foremost concert houses.

This varied programme is performed by pianist Huw Watkins and violinist Tamsin Waley-Cohen – the British musician who was selected for the Rising Stars programme in 2016/17. Recent highlights on her calendar include collaborations with orchestras such as the London Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic, BBC Concert Orchestra and the Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra.

Also included here as a programmatic theme are several songs from George Gershwin’s jazz opera Porgy and Bess – arranged by Jascha Heifetz (1901–87), who is now considered one of the best violinists of the modern era and who frequently included Gershwin tunes in encore performances. Music by Debussy and Sibelius to begin.

Tamsin Wahley-Cohen was nominated for Rising Stars by Town Hall & Symphony Hall Birmingham.
